Music event on the 50th anniversary of EU-China relations

【PDN news】On 9 May, the Delegation of the European Union to China presented “Avenues of EU-China Engagement: Cultural Dialogues”, a captivating stage performance marking 50 years of EU-China relations. The event attracted over 500 attendees, showcasing a fusion of European and Chinese artistic expressions that emphasized the importance of cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

The 150-minute performance featured a diverse lineup of artists from Austria, China, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, and Romania, offering a rich blend of classic and contemporary stage art forms. From traditional Chinese opera to modern European dance and musical performances, the event illustrated how cultural collaboration can bridge differences and deepen connections.

The European Union is committed to fostering deeper cultural dialogues and exchanges with China. This performance reflects the power of culture in bringing people together, and creating lasting connections. Mr. Mattias LENTZ, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to China noted: Engagement – meaningful and leading towards progress – is essential to improve our bilateral relations. Just as the title of this music event suggests, engagement also takes shape through cultural dialogues between the people of the EU and China. Discovering each other’s culture helps to bring us closer. Cultural and people-to-people exchanges can contribute to the foundation of trust and understanding that will guide us in improving our bilateral relations, honouring commitments, addressing global challenges and seizing new opportunities.

The event drew a diverse audience, including representatives from cultural organizations, media professionals, educators, students, and officials specializing in cultural diplomacy and international cooperation. Attendees were captivated by the unique blend of traditional and contemporary art forms, which beautifully illustrated the depth and richness of European and Chinese cultures. The performance reinforced the importance of intercultural dialogue in fostering mutual understanding and respect. The event also provided a valuable platform for cultural stakeholders to connect and exchange ideas, further strengthening EU-China cultural ties.
