2005年，季莫非初抵北京，语言障碍并未阻挡他深耕中国的决心。通过系统学习与沉浸式生活，他不仅熟练掌握中文，更将对中国的热爱融入职业追求。2014年起，他先后在国际台俄语部、外文出版社等机构任职，从撰写评论文章、制作广播节目到翻译经典著作，全方位搭建中俄沟通桥梁。七年时间里，他创作数百期聚焦中俄经贸互动的广播节目，在《俄罗斯报》等中外媒体发表数十篇国际政治、经济领域分析文章，用专业视角向世界解读中国发展与中俄关系。

作为外文出版社外国专家，季莫非肩负起重要著作的翻译传播使命。他深度参与《习近平谈治国理政》第三至五卷俄文版翻译出版，完成50余部政府白皮书、30余部中国发展主题书籍的翻译工作。为追赶出版进度，他常熬夜修订稿件，即便重病住院期间仍坚持完善译文，用极致敬业精神确保中国声音精准传递至俄罗斯乃至俄语世界。凭借在新中国成立70周年阅兵评论翻译中的突出表现，他荣获“中华人民共和国成立70周年”纪念奖章，这份荣誉成为他深耕翻译事业的生动注脚。

【PDN News】At the glorious moment of the 2025 Public Diplomacy Person Award Gala, the distinguished Russian diplomatic emissary Timofey Bakhvalov was honored with the Person of the Year title for his outstanding achievements in deepening China-Russia cultural and people-to-people exchanges over two decades. This foreign expert who has rooted in China for 20 years has built a bridge across borders with his pen and voice, writing a chapter of friendship on the stage of translation, cultural exchange, and diplomatic communication, and has become a benchmark figure in the field of China-Russia public diplomacy.

In 2005, Timofey Bakhvalov first arrived in Beijing. Language barriers did not deter his determination to settle in China. Through systematic learning and immersive life, he not only mastered Chinese proficiently but also integrated his love for China into his career pursuit. Starting from 2014, he has worked successively in institutions such as the Russian Service of China Radio International and Foreign Languages Press (FLP), building a comprehensive bridge for China-Russia communication from writing commentary articles and producing radio programs to translating classic works. Over seven years, he created hundreds of radio programs focusing on China-Russia economic and trade interaction, published dozens of analytical articles on international politics, economy, and other fields in Chinese and foreign media such as Russia’s government newspaper "Russian Gazette" and International Talent Exchange magazine. He was awarded the "70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" Commemorative Medal for translating a commentary on the parade celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC.

As a foreign expert of FLP, Timofey Bakhvalov took on the mission of translating and publishing important works. He deeply participated in the Russian translation and publication of Volumes III, IV, and V of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, completed the translation of more than 50 government white papers and over 30 books on China’s development. Driven by his passion for work, he often insisted on revising manuscripts late into the night and early morning to meet publication schedules. On weekdays and weekends, he always responded promptly to work inquiries and tasks from colleagues. Even when hospitalized due to a serious illness, he continued to revise scripts whenever possible to avoid delaying work.

Faced with translation challenges such as Chinese poems, sayings, proverbs, and words from ancient Chinese texts, Timofey Bakhvalov diligently studied Chinese culture. By reading classic Chinese literature, watching popular Chinese movies and TV dramas, and engaging in in-depth discussions with Chinese colleagues, he continuously improved his cross-cultural translation skills. With this rigorous and meticulous attitude, his Chinese proficiency, as well as his revision and translation capabilities, improved rapidly. Now he can tackle various difficult manuscripts with greater ease. Meanwhile, he has traveled to more than 50 cities in China, from the historical heritage of Beijing to the vivid daily life of Chengdu, from the landscape paintings of Guilin to the innovative vitality of Shenzhen. While personally feeling the pulse of China’s development, he has also become a vivid communicator of Chinese stories.

On the broad stage of public diplomacy, Timofey Bakhvalov has been active in various international events. Over the past ten years, he has attended more than 50 international forums and roundtables as a foreign expert, including the Forum on the Protection and Promotion of Cultural Diversity, the High-End Forum on the Rule of Law Cooperation Among Countries Along the Silk Road, the BRICS Seminar on Governance & Cultural Exchange Forum, and the World Digital Economy Forum. With his profound understanding of China-Russia relations and international perspective, he delivered keynote speeches and shared insights, injecting momentum into promoting the international community’s understanding of China and deepening China-Russia practical cooperation. He also long-term provided Russian embassies and consulates in China with newly published government books and materials on China’s development and China-Russia relations, facilitating bilateral diplomatic communication. Even under the complex international situation, he still adheres to the original intention of friendship and builds bridges for multi-country exchanges.

"Promoting China-Russia friendship, deepening practical cooperation and public diplomacy is my unchanging pursuit," Timofey Bakhvalov said sincerely and firmly on the podium of the 2025 Public Diplomacy Person Award Gala.
